About Me

Here we go with another rendition of a bio about me.

I grew up watching hockey, mostly the local Flint Generals and then the Red Wings on tv.

As one of only two girls that would play street hockey with the neighborhood boys I did not learn to ice skate until I was in my twenties. The first ice I skated on was the Kettler Capitals Iceplex in Arlington, Virginia. I would compare my skating ability to that of Tomas Holmstrom but lets be real he looks like Datsyuk compared to me.

Why do I think that what I have to say about hockey means anything?

To start off I attended Baker College for Marketing and Secondary Education before I transferred first to University of Detroit Mercy for Special Education with a concentration in Emotional Impairment and then to George Mason University for Sports Management.

Currently I volunteer with the American Special Hockey Association (ASHA) and do communications/marketing work with them. I also volunteer on site when I can. I was at the USA Disabled Hockey Festival in Laurel, Maryland; and this past Feb in Toledo, Ohio at the ASHA Outdoor Festival. With my educational and professional backgrounds in special education ASHA is a great balance between the two passions.

As for my own writing: I was the morning columnist for The Hockey Writers with “From Abdeklader to Zuccarello.” I started at The Hockey Writers covering the Minnesota Wild, then after moving back to Michigan took over the Detroit Red Wings beat before becoming a editor.

You can find some of other my past stuff also at Pro Hockey News, Hockey Wilderness (SBN Minnesota Wild), Octopus Thrower (Fansided Detroit Red Wings), Howlin’ Hockey (Fansided Phoenix Coyotes), Detroit Sports Nation and the occasional contribution on Yahoo! Sports Puck Daddy.

I was credentialed for the NCAA (CCHA) world record setting The Big Chill at the Big House (University of Michigan vs. Michigan State University), CHL press/photographer credentials and was credentialed by the NHL for the 2011 NHL Entry Draft in Minnesota.
