It's a trap!

Okay, this isn't your traditional trap game. The Red Wings have hit a bit of a skid and know they need to turn things around, so they won't be overlooking the Blue Jackets. They will be going into the game with a greatly diminished lineup, however.

Let's do this in chronological order. Patrick Eaves, Pavel Datsyuk, Jonathan Ericsson, Kyle Quincey and Nicklas Lidstrom... All out as Detroit visits Columbus tonight. With Mike Commodore having been dealt off to the Tampa Bay Lightning, the Red Wings have called up Brendan Smith and Doug Janik to fill in on defense.

Oh, and Joey MacDonald gets the start in goal, but at least it's not because Jimmy Howard is hurt.

With all the injuries, the blueline pairings are all shaken up. With the forwards slumping the second and third lines have been switched up, too. Bill Roose has the new lines as follows:

Filppula - Zetterberg - Hudler
Cleary - Abdelkader - Bertuzzi
Miller - Helm - Franzen
Mursak - Emmerton - Holmstrom

Kronwall - Smith
Kindl - Stuart
Janik - White

Game time is 7:00 on FS+. I'm running around a bit today so I might miss some of this one.

Franzen goes to the net and gets on the board. He needs to do that more.

Wings should be blowing this team out of the water. They need to wake the hell up.

Wings would be getting booed right now if this were a home game.

Wings can only score on the PP when they give up one, too.

Heh, what a goofy-ass goal. Shanahan and Yzerman are proud.

And now the Wings up by a pair. Maybe you can only show up for the third.

Seriously, is this even the same team that played the first 45 minutes or so?

A win is a win but, wow, this was an ugly way to get one.

The Red Wings headed into the third period tied with the NHL-worst Columbus Blue Jackets. A situation that never should happen. Then they gave up a shorthanded goal to give the Jackets a 2-1 lead.

There is no reason for the Detroit Red Wings to trail the Columbus Blue Jackets in the third period of any game. The Red Wings just have too much talent and the Blue Jackets too little.

And apparently the Wings realized that, rattling off four goals to get the 5-2 win.

The score does not show how the game was played, it just reflects just how bad Columbus is that the Wings could play about 10 minutes of hockey and still put up five goals on them.

And I'll take it. Coming off three losses in a row, on a night when Carolina beat the Nashville Predators, I will take those two points and run. It's not pretty but they count.
