With the win against St. Louis last night, the Wings secured the President's Trophy as the team with the best regular season record.  The only thing that worries me is that the previous times that we won the President's Trophy, it seems we had an early exit from the playoffs!

In any of the three cup wins that the Wings had, were any of those years that we won the President's Trophy?  My recollection is that they were not.

Is this trophy a curse?

A Curse or a grind on the Players to achieve it. maybe giving Lids and some of the older dudes a rest would be worth not getting the Trophy. But when your a cometitor you always want to get some accolades.

The last time the Wings won the Cup,  they also won the President's trophy, eyetricks.  In fact I think they cruised to it way early, and then had a letdown right before the playoffs started, and then proceeded to lose the first 2 games against the Nucks.  But we all know how that turned out.

Since 1990 three other Pres. Trophy winners have also gone on to win the Cup - the Rangers, the Stars, and the Avs.

Looks like its either going to be Nashville or Edmonton (depending on the outcome of Sunday's games) in the first round on Wednesday at the Joe.

I'm personally looking forward to seeing a better first round out of this team than the one they gave us last year!

I hope that we face edmonton. The oilers have a very low profile in the nhl compared to the wings and the avs.

Having a potential Game 7 Stanley Cup Final on your home ice is priceless.  I think winning the Presidents Cup is worth winning for that.  I think any losses in the past after winning the trophy was due to much more than a curse or bad luck.

Bill Clemente said Lewis should be coach of the year after all the injuries and still winning the Prez.

Do you think Lewis has a difficult job with the amount of talent there is on this team?  I guess you could point to the NY Rangers... lots of talent, bad team.  Maybe he is necessary after all.

I kind of like having a Coach that doesn't need to be bigger than the team.

You're right. If the Rangers are a bad team with good players, it can only fall down to one thing. BAD COACHING   .
Bad coaching is my mortal enemy!

I think Lewis has done a fine job this season.  He has talented players but the development of guys like Datsyuk come with ice time and Lewis had the balls to give him plenty of it when injuries hit early in the season.

Congrats.......lets see if winning the Pres Trophy turns into an advantage during playoffs.???

After those two games in Nashville, I'm pretty confident the President's Trophy doesn't mean much!

This team needs to buckle down and turn this ship around!  Best of three series with home ice advantage now....
