Flames @ Red Wings - 11/3

It's the Flames and Wings tonight in Detroit. Calgary has actually been worse than Detroit this season but if Columbus is any example, that just means they'll treat this as a statement game.
Gustav Nyquist has been sent back down to the Grand Rapids Griffins, with the Wings front office says they didn't want to subject him to how the rest of the team is playing right now. I'm not sure I believe it but it does leave a roster spot open for Brendan Smith to be called up and serve another game of his suspension. That'll leave him with one game left, which I think will be served on Tuesday.
Mike Commodore will make his Red Wings debut, with Jakub Kindl the healthy scratch on defense. Cory Emmerton and Jiri Hudler are back in the lineup and Patrick Eaves is out with a back injury.
Game time is 7:30 PM. FSD has the TV.
I'll miss most of this one as I've got a 7:50 soccer game in Lansing.

Wings still look like they're in a production funk.

Early in the third, before the Flames' third goal, Ken Kal and Paul Woods were talking about how great of a night several Detroit players were having. "Best game of the season" was a phrase being thrown around. From what I saw later in the third and from what I see people saying now, what the hell were they watching? It's disappointing if they were just being cheerleaders.
In the game's final minute, FSD showed a shot of Johan Franzen on the bench, staring off into space. Ken Daniels said that it summed up the game. To me, that's the problem. The Wings' sixth loss in a row was just about to be complete and Franzen looked like he was bored.
Show some passion, Mule! The Wings are losing because they're sleepwalking through games. The fact that it seems to be acceptable in the Detroit dressing room drives me nuts.

Which players were they talking about? Helm and Abdelkader had a couple of great shifts where they completely dominated the play (without scoring, sadly)....I'd like to see them get a chance to play with someone besides Hudler (I like him, he's just not very effective), someone who could profit from their work, take the puck and bury it.

Mentioned by name were Helm and Abdelkader, Filppula, Miller, Kronwall (all the defense except for Commodore, actually), and a couple others I'm forgetting.Which players were they talking about? Speaking of Commodore, did he actually play tonight? I didn't hear his name after his first shift.

Commodore did play...I don't know if he was on the ice for any of the goals...I don't think he made any glaring errors and the Wings outshot Calgary fairly significantly? (But Kindl has been steady, right?) Kronwall and Stewart were on for the third goal against, as was Bertuzzi. Bertuzzi and Kronwall both skated right past the puck in what should have been an easy clearing....
After the goal by Cleary, the team really picked up the pace...looked like they said to themselves, well, we CAN get lucky, too. But that third goal was a killer.
I don't know if last night's game was one of the "sellouts", but the seats are empty...has to be disheartening, also.
