The Red Wings host the Maple Leafs on Hockey Night in Canada tonight (FSDetroit if you'd prefer the home coverage).

Jan Mursak has been sent back to Grand Rapids as Todd Bertuzzi will return to the lineup after missing one game. Ruslan Salei will sit on defense, making room for Jakub Kindl in the lineup.

Apparently Brett Lebda will be in the lineup for the Leafs, so that should be... something.

The Leafs need the win to stay alive in the Eastern Conference playoff chase. Detroit has virtually clinched a playoff spot (tickets went on sale today) but sits tied with San Jose for second place in the West (with one game in hand on the Sharks) so playoff positioning is on the line.

Jimmy Howard starts for the Wings and rookie James Reimer gets the nod for Toronto. Reimer is unbeaten on the road in regulation in his young career.

Game time is 7:00.

Zata with the PPG. Great tempo so far. Wings need to crack Reimer early so this isn't another one of those "Young goalie made to look amazing by the Wings" games.

I had a feeling the first goal would go to Kadri...

Toronto putting a lot of pressure on the Wings, moving pretty quickly. Wings are gaining the zone well but not having a lot of room to work. Feels like the Leafs are working harder but getting fewer chances (haven't seen the actual shot totals). Could be a good thing for Detroit if that means Toronto will tire sooner.

I see Lebda still makes the same mistakes he did in Detroit.

Good to see Abs stand up for his teammates there.

Look at how Hudler can score without taking the goalie out.

Bert kills the Leafs playoff hopes. At least there's solace in that.

I want the NHL to answer why Tomas Holmstrom is constantly called for goalie interference even though he barely touches the opposition. The goal that was called back in Nashville is proof there is some form of conspiracy. Detroit will have two to three goals called back however, the other team can sit on Jimmy Howard and not only score a goal but get away with it? This is bullsh*t and Colin Campbell owes the fans in Detroit an answer.

Actually, this one's not on Campbell. He's in charge of supplementary discipline, Terry Gregson is head of officiating.

Babcock wants the same answer. I don't think any of us are going to get it. My best guess is personal bias. Lots of refs have decided that Holmstrom goes where they don't want him to and they're going to hold it against him forever. And there's no accountability so they don't get called on it.
