Mike Modano and Valtteri Filppula return to the lineup tonight as the Red Wings visit the Buffalo Sabres. With Patrick Eaves still out, one forward will have to sit to make room. Drew Miller will play against his brother, so the odd-man out is expected to be Justin Abdelkader or Kris Draper. I lean towards Draper.

Brian Rafalski will miss the game with back spasms. Jakub Kindl takes his spot amid rumors (denied by Ken Holland) that Kindl, Jonathan Ericsson, or Jiri Hudler could be bound for Atlanta in return for Zack Bogosian.

Joey MacDonald gets the start for Detroit. Sorry if I have bad feelings about that.

This is the first game of a five-game road trip, with all four of the remaining games out West. That's 5000 miles of travel in one trip.

Miller scratched? Un-Babcock-like move there, with all the family in attendance.

Innocent looking shot. I recognize that it was a good chance but I feel like J-Mac should have had it.

I may be ripping on Joey on Twitter right now but the rest of the team looked better than they did on Thursday. It's something.

Lucky bounce in Detroit's favor this time. Nice shot by Pavs.

Much better period. Could easily be tied (or better) right now.

Fought back for the point. That's important. I like the Wings' momentum but I fear the shootout.

Holy hell. Joey MacDonald beats Ryan Miller in the shootout. Never would have predicted that.
