The Red Wings host the Predators for the second meeting between the two teams in five days tonight. Each team has played once since then, Detroit picking up a 3-2 win over the New York Rangers and Nashville dropping a 4-0 decision to the Edmonton Oilers.

Detroit will be without forward Valtteri Filppula, who is expected to miss at least three games after suffering a sprained knee against the Rangers. Their lineup will be bolstered by the return of Tomas Holmstrom from a broken hand.

The lineup, as per Khan...

Franzen-Zetterberg-Bertuzzi
Hudler-Datsyuk-Cleary
Holmstrom-Abdelkader-Eaves
Draper-Helm-Miller

Lidstrom-Kronwall
Ericsson-Rafalski
Kindl-Salei

Howard (starting)
MacDonald

Reminder, this game is on FS+ so check your local listings.

Ugly all around. Giveaway, ineffective defense, shot blown right past Howard.

Awful giveaway. Not a great chance but Jimmy held strong.

I was just about to say that either the Wings were going to take a penalty or Nashville would score.

I should go back to work. Less painful than this.

Four goals bad for the Wings, good for my client. Back to work I go.

There is a fairly entertaining game on VS...lots of scoring, a brawl (apparently, though we missed the actual fight, but penalty boxes were full to overflowing)....

According to the numbers, it looks like Cleary is the only one that took Babs' advice about being more agressive. 6 hits tonight.

My western/eastern conference finals picks are in:

Vancouver over San Jose
Philadelphia over Boston

Philadephia over Vancouver for Cup

As for wings.. 2nd round knockout at best.

Too slow of a defense as it is like butter every other game.
No goaltending consistency
Every play has to be the "perfect" play for this team, hard to watch when they're off their game. That euro finesse game isn't so fun to watch when it doesn't work. Shoot the damn puck when in a scoring position!
No push back or players that will energize the team with a fight or hit.

I think last night's debacle was the first Red Wings game all season I turned off partway through. It was that bad.

I'm not going to dwell on it 'cause I don't have to. The Wings do. They've cancelled a scheduled day off today and Mike Babcock says they'll be working hard at practice. His postgame comments sum things up pretty well...

It's absolutely unacceptable to compete like we did. It's beyond ridiculous. We're all in it together. We weren't good enough. We weren't mentally prepared. The other team skated right through us. They deserve full credit for the win.
