The goalie trap is the wrong solution to a valid problem. The issue isn't that there are goalies who can play the puck well, which slows the game down. The issue is that those goalies can play the puck and then are invulnerable. Make the goalie fair game in the corners and the problem is solved.

Yup, love to see an official Brodeur vs. Avery battle in the corner I guess the bottom line is that there were so many good things about the style of the game that it finally convinced me the NHL wouldn't be hurt by the changes.

Was I the only one who noticed the camera zoom in on Crosby EVERY OTHER SCREEN after they one. It was ridiculous. I literally started calling it... annnnd back to Crosby. They even showed a shot of Crybaby while they were interviewing Ryan Miller... "OH! Sydney moved... now he's talking to another player... lets show the left side of his face! Seriously camera man.... GET OFF THE KNOB! He was out played by several players in the tournament. If there was anyone to keep zooming in on, it was Ryan Miller, who as far as I'm concerned, played better than anyone else on the ice.

You're not the only one who noticed. Part of me says it's justified 'cause he was the one who scored the GWG but part of me says "Wait, didn't he do absolutely nothing all tournament up until that goal? Shouldn't someone else be shown once or twice now?"

And in the end, what was the effect of the NHL-sized ice, do you think? I suspect that the teams with players who play in European leagues would have benefitted. I heard Jagr say in an interview that he had lost several/many kilos playing on the bigger ice in Europe.

What news on the Red Wings front? Who's playing in the game tonight?

All right now! Crosby's not my favorite player (neither is Miller), but if he did garner a few extra screen shots it's not that bad. He DID score the winning goal and it DID help Canada break an Olympic record of most gold on home turf. Besides, he was heavily checked most of the tournament (of which I'm glad for because it opened up some opportunities for other players). End of the day, that's what players like Crosby do... score the big one. So, I'm not saying sorry on behalf of Canada Besides, you want over exposure of players who do little to warrant it, move to Toronto where it's at repulsive levels.

I don't want this to be a Crosby-bashing thread so I'll lock it if I think it goes too far. That said, I'll say a bit of what I said over at Rangerland in the debate there.

I understand the overpromotion of Sidney Crosby now. As of yesterday he's an Olympic gold medal winner. He's a defending Stanley Cup Champion. He's a phenominal player and a winner. But he hasn't always been.

The problem is that he's been promoted like this since he was drafted, maybe earlier. He was the face of the league for three years when he hadn't won anything yet. No Olympics. No Stanley Cup. Not even a Memorial Cup.

He was overpromoted when he didn't deserve it and now that he does there are a ton of people already sick of seeing him.

But none of that is entirely his fault. The NHL's marketing machine is too focused on needing a single face of the league. Sidney Crosby alone, or Alex Ovechkin alone, or even the two of them combined does not sell what the NHL is about. This game is so ridiculously a team game that to boil it down to one or two players across the entire league is a disservice to the game.

Of course, we shouldn't expect the NHL (or their marketing partners, which NBC falls under) to get anything right.

Did anyone catch the discussion of the All-Tournament team by the panel (McCarty, etc...I don't know the other guys' names) on Versus during the Wings game? They were definitely taking issue with the choices, notable contributions that hadn't made the team, and I couldn't tell if the choice of Crosby was one of their doubts or not.
