Hockey this Morning reports that Jimmy D told AM 590 that the Wings are close to a deal with Bertuzzi. Anyone else heard anything?

Well... I guess he'd be a cheap tough guy. With the probable departure of McCarty and Downey, I would say this wouldn't be a bad idea... I'd give it higher marks than the Williams deal as long as they pay him in food stamps and possibly prostitutes (Detroit ones...not good ones..) as monthly bonuses.

I wouldn't mind it but Malik pretty much shot it down yesterday (which is why I never posted it myself).

Normally I would agree however, the only reason why I brought it up is that the guys on the morning show have been working to only mention stuff that is 90 percent or better.

Yeah, I'm not outright rejecting it as much as Malik did but I find it very hard to believe.

Malik and the Chief continue to weigh in on this rumor, with Malik backing off on his "no way, no how" assertion.

I finally heard the interview and it sounded like Jimmy D was pretty certain about it. I'm kind of confused because Bertuzzi isn't exactly a 13th forward kind of player but I'd take it.

I know he was recovering from an injury when he was on the Wings before, but I don't want him back. It still didn't seem like he did much. :/

After several days of rumors, the Red Wings have confirmed that they are indeed negotiating with Todd Bertuzzi.

Greg Brady of AM 640 in Toronto (and formerly of Detroit's WDFN) says the Wings have offered one year at $1.5 million.

I'm with Malik in thinking that it's a lot of money, similar to the contract for Jason Williams. Perhaps being a little desperate is causing the Red Wings to pay more than they'd like.

Should this deal happen it means Andreas Lilja will certainly start the season on long-term injured reserve and Justin Abdelkader will be skating in Grand Rapids. Neither comes as a surprise, from all reports I don't expect Lilja to play another game for Detroit and the Wings' brass wanted Abdelkader in GR anyway.

Ohhh, definitely not liking this move. Hopefully I am just having a lapse in judgement, though! Here's to him doing his best! :D

And I am praying that's not what the Wings paid for him, either. :/

Look at it this way; players sometimes find their game in Detroit. All we can hope for is that he does and that he gives us a productive season.

While I think it'd be fantastic to see him return to his production of 6-7 years ago it's probably unrealistic. If he can be a solid third-liner, providing some grit and picking up some of Samuelsson's production while taking some pressure off of Holmstrom on the power play, I think it'll work out.

Still don't like the amount of money a whole lot but I'd imagine it was something like either $1.5M for one year or $1M per season for two years. I'd much rather have one-year deals for these kinds of projects.

Agreed. The one year deals are better and the salary is low enough to be dealt at the trade deadline if necessary.

If the Wings can't use him at the trade deadline, no one will want him anyway.
