It appears that the Detroit Red Wings will be without the services of defenseman Chris Chelios to start the season.
TSN of Canada reports that Chelios will be out for the next six weeks after suffering bone fracture in his leg while blocking a shot during Tuesday night's shootout loss to the Montreal Canadiens.
Chelios described himself as "day-to-day" the following morning but was on crutches while his teammates practiced.
With the 46-year-old veteran on the shelf a spot may have temporarily opened up on Detroit's packed blueline.

That sucks. =/ At least it's not career-ending.

I've got nothing against Q but it seems like he hasn't done much to prove that he belongs in Detroit. I'm willing to bet that the Wings will make whatever moves they were going to make if Chelios was healthy in the next week and he'll be the 8th defenseman even while injured.
